Investing in Participation in Democratic Life
Citizens’ participation in democratic life is key for the promotion of EU values. To overcome citizens’ difficulties in actively engaging and participating in their communities or in the Union’s political and social life, the European Commission launched several initiatives falling under the priority “Participation in Democratic Life”. The Erasmus+ programme also contributes to these efforts by tackling the priority from education and training perspective, foreseeing the opportunity to develop activities promoting active citizenship and ethics in lifelong learning; raising awareness and understanding of the European Union context, notably as regards the common EU values, the principles of unity and diversity, as well as their social, cultural, and historical heritage, critical thinking, and media literacy.
In the framework of its VIP-NET programme (Visibility, Policy engagement, Network Strengthening), the European Vocational and training Association (EVTA) is organizing a series of online events “Coffee Breaks “– aimed at exploring how education and training can contribute to the achievement of the 4 European Commission priorities included in the Erasmus + programme. These events have the objectives to raise awareness on the priorities, give visibility to best practices, and foster cooperation between VET providers and stakeholders, adopting a peer-to-peer perspective.
During the “Participation in Democratic Life” event, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the framework established by the European Commission to foster citizen’s participation in democratic life, social and civil engagement. The event will feature presentations from EVTA and its members who will share best practices and projects related to citizens’ participation in the democratic process of the EU policymaking. This will be followed by an interactive discussion session.
The event will be moderated by Petros Makris Kourkoulos, EU Communication, Event and Project Manager at EVTA.
