Brussels, November 2024 – The AcrossGEN project brings generations together through insights to discover micro-learning and interviews that reveal what drives each generation in the workforce
The AcrossGEN project, a two-year international collaboration, has successfully concluded, delivering a comprehensive tool kit to promote intergenerational cooperation in the workplace.
With an emphasis on intergenerational understanding and cooperation, AcrossGEN has created a unique set of outputs to help support diverse work teams. Focusing on four generations – Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z – the project has promoted an inclusive approach to understanding, retaining, and motivating employees of all ages.
AcrossGEN has produced a comprehensive suite of outputs designed to promote understanding and collaboration across generations in the workplace. Among its outputs are:
- A comparative report on generational needs from four countries emphasizes the specific values and work styles of each age group.
- Four e-books provide descriptions of each generation, detailing their attitudes, values, and motivations.
- An e-book of best practices from partner countries for promoting intergenerational cooperation.
- Development programs for each generation, consist of e-learning modules that address key areas like soft skills, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and digital literacy.
- A one-day workshop syllabus to encourage hands-on intergenerational collaboration.
- An e-book offering tips for effective intergenerational cooperation, with guidance on preventing burnout and improving workplace well-being.
- 4 micro-learning videos summarizing essential facts about each generation, offering quick, digestible insights ideal for team training.
- 32 interview videos with representatives from each generation, exploring topics like motivation, preferred work environments, and career aspirations.
- A handbook for trainers with detailed guidance on using the AcrossGEN methodology to build inclusive, multigenerational teams.
Highlighting video-driven learning and personal insights
AcrossGEN project developed micro-learning and interview videos, which bring the perspectives of each generation to life. The 4 micro-learning videos condense essential information about generational values, attitudes, and motivations into short, engaging clips, perfect for quick team learning sessions. The 32 interview videos offer more in-depth views from representatives of each generation, covering essential workplace topics like:
- Motivation and factors that drive performance
- Preferences in team communication, whether in-person or digital
- Managing work-related stress and finding work-life balance
- Opinions on remote work, overtime, and lifelong learning
- Key career priorities, illuminating aspirations across generations
A series of interviews was conducted with professionals across diverse age groups, each asked a uniform set of questions designed to uncover generational preferences and expectations. By identifying key patterns and differences, the interviews highlight what each generation values in their work environment – from essential benefits and ongoing education to work-life balance. For instance, while some generations prioritize in-office work to enhance communication, others prefer the flexibility and autonomy of remote work. With subtitles in English, Czech, Italian, Spanish, and French, these videos are accessible to a diverse audience across Europe.
