AcrossGEN – Crossing Generational Lines

Crossing Generational Lines

Prague, October 2024 – New Project Invites Public to Test Practical Solutions for Intergenerational Collaboration. The Across-GENerations Initiative.

“The dynamic workforce of today spans multiple generations, each bringing unique experiences, skills, and perspectives to the table. In response to the challenges and opportunities of this diversity, the Across-GENerations project is launching a transformative initiative to move the conversation about intergenerational cooperation from theoretical discussions to practical applications within work teams.”

The project AcrossGEN emphasizes the importance of cross-generational collaboration in shaping the future of the labor market. By fostering understanding and cooperation across four key generations: Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z – the initiative aims to break down barriers and promote diversity as a strength in professional settings.

Did You Know? Generational Insights That Impact Your Workplace

Generational diversity is more relevant than ever in today’s workforce. Here are some eye-opening statistics that highlight the importance of cross-generational collaboration:

Four generations in the workplace: For the first time in history, the workforce spans four generations, from the Baby Boomers to Generation Z. Each brings different experiences, values, and communication styles to the table, making collaboration both a challenge and an opportunity.

Workforce representation: Baby Boomers, despite reaching retirement age, still make up around 25% of the global workforce, while Millennials (Generation Y) dominate at 35%. Generation X comprises 33%, with Generation Z steadily increasing its presence, expected to constitute 27% of the workforce by 2025.

Work style preferences: Studies show that 41% of Baby Boomers prefer in-person communication, while 75% of Millennials favor digital collaboration tools like Slack and Zoom. Understanding these preferences is key to ensuring effective teamwork across generations.

Employee retention: Cross-generational mentorship programs can reduce turnover rates by as much as 20%, as younger employees benefit from the knowledge and experience of older colleagues, while older generations gain fresh perspectives and technological proficiency insights from younger workers.

Generational strength: Research shows that diverse teams – including age diversity -are 35% more likely to outperform their competitors. Teams that leverage the unique strengths of each generation report higher innovation, creativity, and problem-solving capabilities.

“The cooperation of different generations in the workplace is a powerful catalyst for development in today’s labour market,” said Danica Pražáková, adult trainer from the Czech Republic “By embracing the strengths of each generation, we aim to foster more inclusive, productive, and innovative work environments.”
