VET LOVES FOOD Final Conference – “Growing a More Sustainable Future: Greening the HORECA Sector Through VET Education”
Current food systems account for nearly one-third of global GHG emissions, consume large amounts of natural resources, results in biodiversity loss and negative health impacts and do not allow fair economic returns and livelihoods for all actors, in particular for primary producers.
In this regard, the VET LOVES FOOD project, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, aims to develop green skills in the agri-food and HORECA curricula of VET educational pathways, seeking to achieve SDG 12.3 and raising awareness in these sectors on food-waste prevention. The project has provided various results through its implementation, including the VET curriculum in agri-food sector, a Hands-on Manual for food waste prevention and e-learning course on food waste prevention, and a replication path. The project is coordinated by the Spanish Confederation of Vocational and Education Centers (Spain) with the collaboration of ESPE – Escola Profissional de Espinho (Portugal), Escuela Superior de Hostelería de Bilbao (Spain), ENAIP Veneto (Italy), Mentortec (Portugal), Learningdigital (Italy), and EVTA – European Vocational Training Association (Belgium).
Coming to an end in May 2024, after a successful implementation and joint cooperation, the VET LOVES FOOD project will have its Final Conference – Building Resilient Food Systems, showcasing the project results, challenges and opportunities, and a more in-depth vision in the food waste issue. This event will be an occasion for stakeholders, professionals in both the educational and HORECA sectors, and other participants to earn wider knowledge towards greener and more sustainable lifestyles and food systems.
